• Colonial Helps!

    Beginning Monday 9/18 each classroom will have a coin collector to collect donations for One America Appeal which donates every cent of every dollar to Hurricane Harvey and Irma relief. The students are encouraged to bring in coins or small bills to place in their classroom coin collector every morning this week only. Each class’s progress will be tracked and showcased near the front office. The project will end Friday 9/22. Thank you for your help.

  • Interested in Serving on BOE Committee?

    Dear Members of the Pelham Community:

    The Board of Education is seeking interested candidates to fill vacancies on several of the Board and District’s committees for the 2017-18 school year.

    Vacancies exist on the Board’s Community Engagement/Advocacy, Audit, Bond Steering and Athletic Facilities Master Planning committees. Additionally, there are vacancies on the District’s Diversity Oversight, International Baccalaureate Oversight, Literacy, Math Review, Safety and Security, SMART Bond Planning and Wellness Oversight committees.

    Volunteering to serve on these committees is a good way to become involved with the school community and help guide the important work that takes place in our District each year.

    If you are interested in serving, please complete this Google Form or fill out this PDF form and scan and email back to Public Information Officer Alex Wolff at awolff@pelhamschools.org. Forms must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.

    The Board will review all applications and select the top candidates to fill the open vacancies.

  • Hutchinson Tours/ Community Meeting

    Dear Pelham Parents and Community Members:

    In preparation for a bond referendum later this school year, the Board of Education will meet and host tours of Hutchinson School and hold community meetings on Thursday, Sept. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 4. On each day, the tour will begin at 7:00 pm outside the portable classrooms on the Fifth Street side of the building with the meeting beginning at 7:30 pm in the school gym. All are welcome to attend both the tour and/or meeting.

    On the tour, community members will get a first-hand look at the Hutchinson School building, including the portables, gym/cafeteria space, classrooms and the school library. At the meeting that follows, Superintendent Dr. Cheryl H. Champ will make a brief presentation of the concepts being considered by the Board, such as different options for building additions and the possibility of creating a new Hutchinson School. The community is encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback. Beforehand, we encourage you to read this Q&A on the Hutchinson School project and visit the project website for additional information.

    Alternatively, guests are welcome to watch a brief video tour of the building and a simulcast of the community meeting in the portables beginning at 7:15 pm on each day.

    In addition to the two community meetings/tours, the Board encourages the public to attend its upcoming regular meetings, which will each include bond-related work sessions. The Board will next meet on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8:15 pm in the Middle School library. That meeting’s work session will include discussions on the Hutchinson School façade condition with Architect Diane Kaese, a model instructional program, financing strategies and the decision analysis criteria that will be used by the Board.

    Please note that with the exception of the Sept. 26 meeting, each Board of Education meeting through Dec. 5 will begin one-hour earlier at 7:15 pm.  A full list of meetings and topics is available on the District website.

  • Sept. 26 Board of Education Meeting: Bond Planning Work Session

    The Board of Education of the Pelham Public Schools is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 8:15 pm in the Middle School Library on the second floor of Pelham Middle School, 28 Franklin Pl, Pelham, NY 10803. It is anticipated that the Board will meet at 7:00 pm and go immediately into Executive Session in the Superintendent's Conference Room before the public meeting.

    At the public session, the Board is expected to hold a brief regular business meeting before conducting a work session regarding the planned bond referendum.  The work session will include discussions on the Hutchinson School façade condition with Architect Diane Kaese, a model instructional program, financing strategies and the decision analysis criteria.

    In addition to Dr. Champ’s Superintendent's report, the agenda may include updates from each School Board committee, Dr. Garcia on 21st Century Learning and Professional Development, Rosemary Matthews on Networks of Support and Social-Emotional Development, and Jim Hricay on Finances and Facilities.

    The full agenda will be available for viewing 24 hours before the meeting.

  • Chromebooks - Grade 8-12

    At the close of the 2016-2017 school year, our scholars were not required to return their Chromebooks. Please be aware that on Monday, August 21st all district Chromebooks will be disabled for updates. The following must be completed to have a student's Chromebook re-enabled:

     

    • Chromebook Acceptable Use Regulation signed by both parent/guardian and student
    • Insurance Acceptance/Decline Waiver signed by parent/guardian
    • Provide a check for $27.00 for insurance made payable to Pelham Union Free School District (Pelham UFSD).  Failure to sign the insurance waiver portion of this form or provide a check (if applicable) will lead to the student’s Chromebook not being re-enabled.

     

    To provide students/families more convenient options to submit documentation and payment, the PUFSD Technology Department will be available before the start of the school year on these dates and times:

    What: Signed Chromebook AUP Form/Insurance Payment Collection/Device Activation

    Where: Pelham Memorial High School, hallway outside Room 113A

    When:    Wednesday August 30th, Thursday August 31st and Friday September 1st from 8:30 am- 3:30 pm

    At the Board of Education's July 11 meeting, Architect Russell Davidson provided an update on the status of the planned Hutchinson School facade replacement and other capital improvements being considered for a bond referendum next school year.

  • Dr. Cheryl Champ Announced as Next Superintendent of Schools

    The Board of Education of the Pelham Public Schools is excited to announce that Dr. Cheryl  H. Champ will be appointed as the District’s next Superintendent of Schools at the Board’s meeting on Tuesday, July 11 and assume the position on August 8, 2017.

    Dr. Champ is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Sewanhaka Central High School District in Floral Park, NY, which serves 8,500 students in grades 7-12 and has a staff of 1,200. She comes to Pelham with over 20 years of experience as an educator, having begun her career as a music teacher in South Carolina, North Carolina and upstate New York before serving as assistant principal of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School and principal of Lakeland High School in Yorktown, NY.  Dr. Champ received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College and her Master’s in Education Administration from the College of St. Rose, where she now serves as an adjunct professor.

    “I am thrilled and honored to have been selected to be the next Superintendent for the Pelham Public Schools,” Dr. Champ said. “Pelham is a wonderful community that values education and is supportive of its schools. As one of the top school districts in New York State, Pelham has been a leader in 21st Century Learning, educating the whole child, and fostering life-long learning for staff and students.

    “The strong strategic plan, broad course offerings, parental involvement, and commitment to student and staff development are assets that will continue to drive the success of this outstanding district,” Dr. Champ continued. “I look forward to assuming this crucial educational leadership role, to meeting students, parents, faculty, and staff, and to becoming a member of the Pelham community.”
